That cost untold suffering and the death of hundreds of millions
"If you really long to save men’s souls, you must tell them a great deal of disagreeable truth." - Charles Spurgeon
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:17-19)
“To them also, as a body politic, he gave sundry judicial laws, which expired together with the state of that people, not obliging any other now, further than the general equity thereof may require.” (Westminster Confession of Faith, 19.4)
Without any Biblical justification whatsoever, the authors of the reformation's great confessions and catechisms, in direct contradiction to the words of Christ Himself, summarily dismissed the whole of Biblical law except that which was required under the nebulous and subjective 'general equity' clause, thereby gutting Christendom and stripping Christ of his authority. It is a shocking, revolutionary statement. This, of course, is due to the effects of a modified form of Marcion's heresy.
Satan has been exploiting this gaping theological breach in the wall of the City of God by using our resulting blind disobedience to many Biblical laws to subject us to the curses of Deuteronomy 28, laws that would have otherwise blessed and protected us, furthered the kingdom of Christ, and suppressed His enemies.
Dismissing wholesale the entire code of law of the Eternal God in favor of a man-made facsimile, a poor photocopy of the original which gets worse with each succeeding generation, the doctors of the reformation (except for a few like Pierre Viret) set to naught the work of Christ to reconcile us to His law, which is His character writ large, His rule and order as King, and His standard of His justice.
Under the amorphous 'general equity' clause, any and every eternal and unchangeable LawWord of the God and Creator of the Universe could and in fact eventually was dismissed by every half-wit theologian as 'irrelevant nonsense'. Any narrative served to justify the dismissal of the many 'embarrassing' and 'uncouth' laws of Moses that were, after all, fit only for 'an ancient, agrarian, miniscule, tribal, patriarchal, unsophisticated, and unenlightened people.'
A few centuries of this nonsense has led us to the point where even the Ten Commandments are no longer read in the churches, much less the case laws expounded on. Yes, even the Ten Commandments have been set aside for the more acceptable suggestion to 'be nice (and wear a mask)'.
Blind to the ongoing validity of all of Biblical law, we have been easily led by His enemies into curse laden disobedience to our King, brought outside of His protective and blessed realm, and thus made subject to every abuse and oppression, as any lawless people must be.
Unanchored from the concrete laws of Moses the church has been set adrift, lost and wayward.
Forsaking the laws on usury, and the cancelling of all debts every Sabbath year, we find ourselves subject to antichrist money powers and all the evil, cultural warfare, the long march through the institutions, and corruption that money can buy. According to MSU Professor Mark Skidmore, the money powers have printed themselves $120T over the past decade to do just that.
Forsaking the law of the jubilee, we find the concept of family stewardship of land, of property rights, taken over by property taxes, corporate eminent domain, and state control by regulation and Marxist communism. Outright property ownership, especially intergenerational, no longer exists. Land can only be rented from the local county.
Forsaking Biblical patriarchy and the stoning of adulterers we find the family constantly under attack and subject to the scourge of Feminism, easy, no fault divorce, and the suffocating tyranny of family courts.
Forsaking the law of the levirate, we find ourselves attacked for preferring kin over others, and condemned as racists.
The list of laws violated and subsequent curses suffered goes on and on.
No, brothers, this has to be stopped. We must forsake all standards and sources of right and wrong, whether they claim to be Christian or not, but the eternal, original, concrete, and unchanging Laws of God as given to Moses and expounded on by the prophets and apostles in Scripture.
No more legislators playing God and passing laws, no more bureaucrats and their endless regulations. Rather, we need judges trained in Biblical law, applying and enforcing the same. Pocket College is a good training ground for them.

- Even just a passing glance at the quote shows a horrible disregard for the law of God! - jp
- That general equity clause removes any accountability to the Law and instead allows man to become a spin doctor with the Word! - jp
- It is the most destructive and antinomian doctrine of the reformation and is swallowed whole and uncritically by generation after generation of Reformed Christians. - aj
- Jesus declared, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word that comes from the mouth of God. Reformed Christians respond, No! No! It's just the general equity. - jp
- It is in such an arrogant contradiction to the assertion of Christ that not one jot or tittle shall pass from the law. Sadly, men I respect hold the Westminster Confession as inviolable and stretch themselves into various contortions to defend this error. - aj
- The divines and their defenders here blithely speak of categories of Biblical law: ceremonial, civil/judicial, and moral that then serve as handy devices to dismiss any laws that do not comport with their current mood. I'm sure if they could have, they would have advised Jesus to kick Moses off the mount of transfiguration. - aj
- The Pharisees likewise played the whore with the Mosaic law, nullifying the laws one by one, by their oral traditions (Talmudism), twisting it till it came to mean the opposite of its intended purpose. - aj
- We must be cognizant of the fact that the Westminster divines were in the employ of the king and thus anxious to appease his ego and not subject him too obviously to the constraints of the Mosaic law. They would have certainly been on their tippy toes as regards the on going validity of Biblical law as Rutherford had just published Lex Rex. - aj
Proposed Amendment
Therefore I propose to amend this: “To them also, as a body politic, he gave sundry judicial laws, which expired together with the state of that people, not obliging any other now, further than the general equity thereof may require.” (Westminster Confession of Faith, 19.4) to this: “To them also, as a body politic, he gave sundry laws specific to the temple and priesthood, which expired together with the state of that people along with the sign of the covenant, which they broke, except as the general equity thereof may require.”
