Easton’s Bible Dictionary defines husband thus:
Husband
i.e., the “house-band,” connecting and keeping together the whole family.
A man when betrothed was esteemed from that time a husband (Matt. 1:16, 20; Luke 2:5).
A recently married man was exempt from going to war for “one year” (Deut. 20:7; 24:5).
From the KJV Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon:
to marry, rule over, possess, own
(Qal)
to marry, be lord (husband) over
to rule over
(Niphal) to be married
owner, husband, lord
owner
a husband
citizens, inhabitants
rulers, lords
(noun of relationship used to characterise - ie, master of dreams)
lord (used of foreign gods)
The use of the word band here is the same as "that which binds" as in a covenant, a law by which all agree to abide. This is seen in Psalm 2:3 "Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us."
A man is a proper husband who binds his household to the covenant LawWord of God in the same way that God husbands us by keeping us, His brides, in His covenant, His economy (law of the house).
This concept is so fundamental and reflective of God's economy that no society can exist without it. The husband led household economy is the engine upon which all other institutions and economies rest and gain their life.
When the last grandfather raised in terms of this concept had finally died, the Soviet Union collapsed. The husbands raised to be fairly close to our definition of new covenant patriarch created a dynamic nation that rose to lead the world, these United States. Now that we are fast becoming a nation of godless gelded men (metrosexuals) we are also fast losing our preeminence.
Our future culture of Christendom must be built on the New Covenant patriarchal husband who incarnates the law of God as Christ did, proving his faithfulness and character in his cultivation, instruction, protection, and provision for his wife and family and kin. Faith coming by hearing the Word faithfully preached. This is how a man's mind is transformed by the renewing of his mind. This is why God has provided PocketCollege.com for his people.
